About audio streaming

How many receivers does ADA expect?

The 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design (section 219 and table 219.3) set a minimum receiver count by seating capacity for assembly areas with a sound system. This is the table we size kits from. Confirm the numbers with your venue and ADA coordinator; we are AV people, not lawyers.

Seating capacityMinimum receiversHearing aid compatible (neck loop)
50 or fewer22
51 to 2002, plus 1 per 25 seats over 502
201 to 5002, plus 1 per 25 seats over 501 per 4 receivers
501 to 1,00020, plus 1 per 33 seats over 5001 per 4 receivers
1,001 to 2,00035, plus 1 per 50 seats over 1,0001 per 4 receivers
2,001 and over55, plus 1 per 100 seats over 2,0001 per 4 receivers

Worked examples: a 100 seat breakout needs 4 receivers. A 300 seat general session needs 12, which is our base kit. A 1,000 seat ballroom needs 35. We stock 26 receivers and source more for bigger rooms.

Questions about assistive listening

How much does it cost to rent assistive listening devices in Las Vegas?

The hearing assist RF kit is $450 per week: a Listen Technologies LT-800 72 MHz transmitter and 12 LR-400 receivers with earbuds in a charging case. Extra receivers are $15 per week each, up to 26. The ListenWIFI streaming package is $550 per week with four receivers and unlimited phone listeners. Delivery and setup in Las Vegas are included.

Does ADA require assistive listening at my event?

If your event is in an assembly area with a sound system, the 2010 ADA Standards (section 219) expect an assistive listening system with a minimum number of receivers based on seating capacity, and a share of them must be hearing aid compatible. Hotel ballrooms and convention halls are assembly areas. The venue may have a house system, but it often does not reach a temporary stage or breakout room, which is where a rental comes in. We are not lawyers, so confirm with your venue and ADA coordinator; we will size the kit to the numbers they give you.

How many receivers do I need?

The ADA table runs from 2 receivers for a room of 50 seats or fewer, to 2 plus one per 25 seats above 50 for rooms up to 500, then 20 plus one per 33 seats above 500 up to 1,000. A 300 seat general session works out to 12 receivers, which is why our base kit is 12. At least a quarter of the receivers, and never fewer than two, should be hearing aid compatible, which is what the neck loops are for. We carry 26 receivers in total and can source more for larger rooms.

What is the difference between the FM kit and ListenWIFI?

The 72 MHz FM kit is the classic ADA system: a transmitter on your mixer, receivers with earbuds, nothing for guests to install and no network to depend on. ListenWIFI streams the same audio over WiFi to a free phone app plus WiFi receivers, so it scales to hundreds of listeners and doubles as silent disco style booth audio. Many events run both: FM for the guests who need a receiver, WiFi for everyone else.

Do the receivers work with hearing aids and cochlear implants?

Yes, with a neck loop in place of the earbuds. The loop couples to the telecoil in most hearing aids and cochlear implant processors. Ask for neck loops when you book and we will pack them with the kit.

Do you provide the ADA signage?

Yes. The international symbol of access for hearing loss sign goes at the entrance or the registration desk so attendees know receivers are available. Ask for it with the order and we include it.

Can you set it up at a hotel ballroom or convention center?

Yes. We deliver to any Las Vegas venue, plug the transmitter into the house mixer or your AV company's console, test every receiver and leave the kit charged and labeled. Our RF engineers coordinate it with the wireless mics in the room so nothing steps on anything.

Can we rent it for a graduation, a church or a school play?

Yes. Commencements, assemblies, worship services, theater productions and city meetings are exactly what 72 MHz assistive listening was built for. See our school AV rental page for packages that bundle the sound system and the receivers.

Send the date, venue and seat count and we'll size the kit and quote it today. Delivery and setup across the Las Vegas valley.
